Some may say that the accuracy of accurately machined parts cannot meet the requirement after suffering surface treatment. Or surface treatment is difficult to be done under the premise of ensuring the accuracy. It this right? Let’s take the driving rollers of belt conveyors as an example and analyze it.

The shaft of driving rollers of belt conveyors is the typical product with high requirements on accuracy and rust protection. Considering its functionality, it shall be installed at the both sides of driving rollers together with bearing housing. This is the reason why we shall ensure the accuracy when installing the bearing housing or motor’s shaft at both sides, otherwise, the installation and later use will be undermined, or even the products will be contaminated with rust, will you accept such products? Will you? Will you ?  

In the field of roller, there are 4 kinds of common anti-rust solutions, namely, galvanization, black oxide coating, oil painting and plastic spraying. Can they be useful?  Let’s check it out:

1. Galvanization: The common solution is to galvanize the product after processing, which can achieve the purpose of rust protection effectively, however, there will be a new problem- the tolerance level after galvanization fails to meet the requirement. In case that the tolerance is larger than the requirement, the central spindle fails to be installed in to the bearing, or when jamming the central spindle into the bearing, the soft galvanization layer will be extruded, thus failing to achieve the purpose of rust protection; In case that the tolerance is smaller than the requirement, there will be a larger space between the central spindle and bearings, at high risk for poor cooperating accuracy during the later running. Meanwhile, the thickness of galvanization layer is difficult to control, which means that the thickness cannot be reserved; therefore, galvanization is not applicable.

2. Black oxide coating: As a kind of common method of chemical surface treatment, black oxide coating can meet the requirements of rust protection, as well as tolerance level of central spindle. However, such black oxide coating will result in significant pollution to the environment, and along with the increasing strict policy on environmental protection, such non-environmental-friendly technology will be banned at any time. Therefore, such method fails to meet the purpose of providing customers with high-quality products in a sustainable development manner.

3. Oil painting and plastic spraying: These two methods can achieve good rust protection effect; however, the thickness of coating is more difficult to control compared with that of galvanization.
